2023 Post Season
Finally, back home and enjoying time with my family. Don’t get me wrong, I miss racing a ton but it feels good to be back home with my family and not on a plane lol. I've had a very good start to my winter training.
I've been able to spend a couple weeks training with my good friend Avery Dreher. I love training with Avery because we are able to push each other past our limits and have fun while doing it. Although our racing careers are in different places, we still are very competitive and being able to push him as he pushes me drives us both to be better. I am very fortunate to have a best friend that has the same goals as I do and we can keep each other on track no matter the tasks.
I got the chance to coach a great rider who came all the way from Ohio, Roman Darby. He was a fantastic student to work with. First day was to mainly watching him and seeing where and what he needed to be improved. He was a bit quiet on that day, just listening, but no matter the instruction he went out and really gave his 100% doing it. He had no issues making mistakes and working through them. As day 2 and day 3 came around we pushed harder, rode together and even got him working on that wheelie game. He is my first one on one coaching student and I enjoyed every minute of it, constantly saw improvements which gets me really excited when coaching. I can’t wait to do it again soon.
I got to attend one of my favorite events of the entire year, CanCon. Massive thank you to Shawn Sloan for making it happen, I got to see some familiar faces from last year and got to meet some new ones this year. Of course I got to shoot some amazing weapons, my favorite (but also the most painful lol) was the 50 cal from 525 yds. The sport of shooting and target practice is very similar to that of motorcycle racing. It requires tons of concentration, coordination, responsiveness and like racing...there is no second place.
Ben Cardella from Zenith Performance surprised me with the CBR600 I used for training last year. I can’t thank him enough for the amazing gift, I absolutely love it. I got to take it to my favorite track in Florida, Jennings. I Used it as a shake down test, after I crashed it at that very track last year. The bike had to be fully rebuilt so I was just trying to get a feel for the bike again and get it setup to race at homestead the following weekend. It was my uncle Rod’s birthday, so we surprised him with a weekend up at Jennings, he dumped it once but that just means he was full send lol. It was special to share a big bike track with him for the first time, Rod and I have been going to track days and watching races at the track for as long as I can remember but we never got to be on the track at the same time. So, this was a super cool experience.
This past Friday I attended the Ducati Revs track day at homestead on a V4. Massive Shoutout again to Shawn Sloan and Ducati of Sanford for this day. It was the most fun I've ever had in my entire life. I couldn’t get enough of the bike. Whenever the checkered flag would come out, I’d get quite disappointed because I didn’t want to get off. The best part was that I continued to get quicker every session and the bike just became more and more fun to ride. Again massive thank you to Shawn Sloan and a special thank you to Ducati Sanford for allowing me to ride. If you are in the market for a Ducati then hit up Ducati Dave and he will set you up VIP style!!
The next 2 days I raced with ASRA CCS on the Dave Buchman Prepared CBR600 and the NSF 250. First real time racing the 600 and I loved it. Didn’t really have too much competition besides the one race I competed with Max Angles. Really enjoyed that race, learned a ton being behind Max and I know now what a 600 can do. Maybe with a quick shifter I can go a little quicker (Pops) 😜. Continued to progress throughout the entire weekend and ended going 1.2 seconds faster than the last time I was there on my 600. Went 6 for 7 on the weekend which I am very pleased with on my first race weekend on the 600. Big thanks to German Vacca for being my training partner for the weekend. Seth Starnes for the hook up on the rear suspension we needed as well.
Thanksgiving was really nice. We enjoyed the day together and just really hung out. We discussed things we were grateful for and how much things have changed from year to year. Looking through pics you can tell how much we have all grown and what paths our lives are taking us. I really enjoyed just hanging out with everyone and enjoying some really good food.
My grandma from New Jersey came down and it is always special when she’s here. I don’t get to see her very often, so I love it when she comes down to visit. She is so involved with everything I am doing from behind the scenes and I really appreciate it Nana...this one goes out to you.
Thank you 2023… the best year of my life so far. I’ve had the most successful year in my racing career, got to travel all over Europe, got to race on some of my dream circuits, and most importantly got to spend tons of quality time with my family. From my parents at home, to the Bowes & Dexter Family in the UK, my Microlise Cresswell and DBPrepared Team, Coach Torres and Big Bro SDK, Shawn Sloan and all my partners and sponsors in between...THANK YOU FOR AN AMAZING 2023. For me, 2024 is here and has been here since I came home. I am coming for that BTC Championship and only I can keep myself from it!
