My First Season Racing Big Bikes

During the 2020 racing season, my dad and I had started putting plans together for what my future would be racing the big bikes. Our goal at the time was getting ready for the Junior cup since we truly didn't know how to get to Europe or what it would take to ride there. The simple path at the time was MotoAmerica Junior cup. So we sourced a 400 from my friends Rodio Racing and  my superstar team of mechanics Tim Cassese and David Buchman decided to dive 100% right in. We sat down and started to build the bike and get ready for the season.

Then the call came....Jay Dexter from DRC Race Leathers called us in Nov/Dec of 2020 and said, I have secured you a chance at some wild card rides in the British Talent Cup with Microlise Cresswell. Our mouths dropped and automatically said YES without truly knowing what we were getting ourselves into.

My dad started doing some research and my team and I kept focusing on preparing for the 2021 Amatuer season with WERA and PanAmerican Superbike (FMRRA at the time). Then a second call came...this time from Nathan Granoff. He was selling Owen's Moriwaki MD250H since Owen had outgrown it and we jumped right on it. Again, we knew we wanted a GP Chassis race bike...just not sure where to get it from and this one landed right on our laps.

Moriwaki MD250H

Tim and Bch started learning of Moriwaki and we decided to concentrate on this platform since that is what was used in the BTC. So we set the 400 aside as a backup bike and started to work on the GP Chassis.

I had some decent competition to work towards here in Florida on the Waki. Yandel had an identical bike and Belladonna was running a much faster machine in the Honda NSF250R. So I had carrots to help get up to speed and help progress quickly. In the WERA series my buddies Logan Cunnison and Eli Banish also had much faster GP machines in the Honda NSF250r so I had carrots in that series as well to help get me prepped for my wild cards in the BTC.

The last missing piece of the puzzle for me was my mental and physical training. I had worked with Mike Torres during the 2020 season when I was racing in the Ohvale cup with American Racing. (See blog "First Professional Contract"). I knew we would need Mike 100% if this wild card was going to be a success. So we sat down with Mike and worked up the plan on milestones, progress and expectations. Without Mike being there in the background, who knows how well I would of handled the mountains and valley that is motorcycle racing.

My team was set, we had the machines we needed and now it was up to getting the season started. Stay tuned for dedicated blogs to each series as I break those down further before heading off to the UK for my challenge of the entire British Talent Cup Championship.
