Updates on Preseason 2023...
Since my last blog, December and January have felt like a blur of working out, riding and cycling; sprinkled with some family time and coaching in between.
In December and January I got to train with SDK in the dirt at the ranch, on the big bikes at Jennings and then motard at Bushnell. I also got to train with Gus Rodio, Ben Gloddy, Brandon Paasch, Marcello Digiovanni , Avery Dreher and Joe Limandri since they all came down to help coach the SFLMINIGP 3 day camp.
During the 3 day camp, I got to give back to the program that has started it all for me. Being able to coach the various levels of riders that come and then also demonstrate the drills for them is very rewarding for me. Makes me feel good being able to work with them and then see them do it for themselves. Watching a newbie go from barely knowing what to do, then dragging knee and eyes up through the drills is awesome.
I've gotten the opportunity to train this off season on a CBR600 thanks to Ben and Zenith Performance. Being able to train on a larger and more potent motorcycle should help my mind slow down further when riding or racing the NSF250....in theory. We shall see how it translates come Round 1 of the PanAm SBK series in Feb. I've been able to put some good, hard, fast laps in at Jennings with the guidance of SDK and got to work on some tactics that really helped me put the power down safely. I am really enjoying the training on the bike and the bike itself.
Then I got to hang out and ride with the N2 crew down at homestead. I also got to enjoy riding and hanging out with the Minigp crew of Gus, Ben, Brandon and Avery. Being able to chase these guys on the 600 allowed me to push and gain more confidence on the bike . Being able to talk to them afterwards and get some pointers is always beneficial since they are already racing these larger motorcycles. Plus, whenever KevDawg (Kevin Rodio) is around...its always a riot. Dustin from Fastglass Media was on hand too and he got some amazing shots from the weekend. If you haven't seen it yet, head over to my Instagram page and check out the reel he put together.
I am really enjoying the pre-season. Mike Torres stays on top of my mental and physical recoveries as I am putting in the work. Being able to take the adventure more seriously, noticing how different actions affect certain outcomes with my body and mind. Then, getting to train with fast friends is always fun. I am looking forward to Round 1 of PanAm SBK . In the meantime check out this awesome new body position SDK and I are working on...lol
